The First Bhutanese Women Soccer Tournament in USA remained Successful

The First Bhutanese Women Soccer Tournament organized by Peace Zone Sporting Club of Bhutanese Community Association of Akron was successfully held on July 18, 2015 Saturday in Akron, Ohio. The first Bhutanese women interstates soccer tournament was supported by the Bhutanese American Sports Council (BASC), and was co-sponsored by Intra-National Home Care.

The One-day knockout tournament was started at 9:20 am and ended at 5:45 pm on 18th July of 2015 in the soccer field at 980 Lakeshore Blvd, Akron, OH. The opening match of the tournament was played between Akron Ohio and Rochester New York, in which the Akron beat Rochester with 3-0. Bhutanese American certified referees Jit Basnet, Billay Angdambay, Dil Ghalley, Purna Khawas, and Shiva Raj Gurung had served as referees of the tournament. First Women Soccer13

Among the seven participating Bhutanese women teams from five different States, teams from Akron Ohio and Fargo North Dakota were successful to play the final match. In much competitive tournament, the Fargo North Dakota beat Akron Ohio by 2-0 scores after half time.

Manisha Magar and Anisha Magar of North Dakota were the Best Player of the tournament and the Highest Scorer of the tournament respectively. The Champion of the first Bhutanese women soccer tournament was awarded with the Championship trophy and cash prize. Similarly, the Runner Up was also awarded with Trophy and cash prize. All the participating teams were awarded with the ‘Participation Appreciation’ trophies and Appreciation Certificates of Participation. The trophies of the tournament were sponsored by the Bhutanese American Sports Council (BASC). The tournament organizers had provided lunch and water facilities in the field for the players, team managers, coaches and volunteers.

First Women Soccer5The first interstate Bhutanese women soccer tournament was observed by more than four hundreds spectators in the field from the local communities and the Bhutanese community of Akron. The Secretary and the founding member of BASC Mr. Devi Subedi, the popular Bhutanese referee and the founding member of BASC Mr. Jit Basnet, and the sponsor from the Intra National Home Care Mr. Dilli Adhikari had addressed the tournament. The vote of thanks was given by Mr. Bharat Bista, the manager of the Peace Zone Sporting Club of Akron.

The women soccer tournament was organized with the mission of enhancing and encouraging Bhutanese women’s participation in sports & sporting events promoting their leaderships with sportsmanship in the United States. The goals and expectations of providing lots of fun, networking opportunities and building up the Bhutanese women sportsmanship for better future were successfully observed in the event with its big success. With the successful conclusion of the tournament, the Bhutanese women in the United States were also successful to celebrate the victory of America in Women FIFA world cup 2015.

According to the host committee and the Bhutanese American Sports Council (BASC), the Second Bhutanese Women Soccer Tournament will be hosted in Fargo North Dakota in 2016.

The first Bhutanese women soccer tournament is going to be held in Akron Ohio on July 18th, 2015 organized by the Peace Zone Sporting Club of Akron (PZSC) in support of the Bhutanese Community Association of Akron (BCAA) and the Bhutanese American Sports Council (BASC). The organizers had circulated their invitations to interstates Bhutanese communities to participate in the ‘First Women Bhutanese Soccer Tournament’.

According to the organizers, the mission of organizing the women Soccer tournament is to enhance and encourage Bhutanese women’s participation in sports & sporting events and to promote women sportsmanship in the United States. Their invitation states that the tournament will provide lots of fun and networking opportunities and buildup sportsmanship for better future creating big platform in the field of games and sports to the Bhutanese women living in diaspora. The Coordinator of the Peace Zone Sporting Club (PZSC), Kumar Ghalley said, “About a dozen of Bhutanese women soccer teams have approached to participate in the first Interstates Bhutanese women soccer Tournament, and seven of the interstates Bhutanese women soccer teams were able to get registered to enter into the tournament”.

On July 15, 2015; Wednesday, the organizing committee has published their ‘Fixture Out of the Tournament’. The Tournament is going to be held in the soccer field at 980 Lakeshore Blvd, Akron, OH 44311 from 9:00 am on July 18th 2015, and the final match will be at 5:00 pm on the same day on the same location.

The organizers have requested all the Bhutanese sports lovers and supporters to support their endeavor and make the First Woman Soccer Tournament a grand success in the history of Bhutanese-American sports. The Himalayan Druk Dallas Soccer Club of Dallas, Texas bagged the Texas Bhutanese championship defeating the Soccer Team of Fort Worth Texas on the final game of Intercity Knockout Soccer tournament that was held on April 18, 2015 in Grapevine, Texas. The tournament was organized as a state qualifying tournament for the selection of two best state representing Bhutanese soccer teams to participate in the 5th Annual Interstates Bhutanese Soccer Tournament 2015, Nashville Tennessee.
Total seven city level Bhutanese soccer teams from five different cities of Texas had participated in the one day knockout soccer tournament organized by Himalayan Druk Dallas Soccer Club at Parr Lane Park in the city of Grapevine, Texas. The final match was played between the two cities of Dallas and Fort Worth which ended with a score of 3-0 declaring Dallas as the State Champion of 2015. Among the seven teams, Suk Raj Subba of Dallas won the title of highest scorer of the tournament.
The voluntary soccer referee for the tournament, Bhim Acharya and lines men Naresh Karki and Surya Subba were appreciated by the tournament host organizer through A. K. Rana Sampang, the General Secretary of Bhutanese American Sports Council (BASC) and the Vice President of Bhutanese Legacy Youth Club. The trophies of the championship and the second position were awarded to the Himalayan Druk Dallas Soccer team and Fort Worth Football Club respectively by the tournament organizers through A. K. Rana Sampang, who is also Texas state coordinator for 5th Annual Interstates Bhutanese Soccer Tournament which is going to be held in Nashville, Tennessee in June 19-21, 2015.
The United Houston and Druk Houston Football Club from the city of Houston, GBFC and AMFC from the city of Austin, AFC from Abilene, Fort Worth FC from the greater Fort Worth and Himalayan Druk Dallas Soccer Club from Dallas have participated in the intercity qualifying tournament. Among these Bhutanese soccer teams, the finalists – Dallas and Fort Worth teams are qualified for the participation in national Bhutanese annual tournament of Tennessee.
Speaking to the mass in the award session of the tournament, A. K. Rana Sampang said, “The mission of establishing a system to send the best and qualified state representing teams from the state of Texas has been successfully done for the year of 2015.” He added, “This will be a model example for other cities and states to standardize the quality of our sports profession, and send limited best players and team(s) to represent in national competitions.” The coordinator of the host committee, Surya Subba said, “From this year we have started organizing such state qualifying tournament, and we’ll continue it in every future year too.” He said, “We already have city representing temporary sports committee connecting with the team leaders of different cities of Texas, and we are on the process to establish it as a formal state Bhutanese sports committee to support our youths sports within the state.”
The host of Intercity Qualifying Tournament for 2016 has not been declared yet, but the soccer team captain of Fort Worth, Kopil Khatiwoda has proposed for it to be hosted in the greater city of Fort Worth.
